VIII

I was very influenced by Mrs. Lehman's Honors English IV, which was basically British literature. This one has a Keats edge to it, a poet that was only twenty yet wrote about how short life was (and it was for him because he died not long thereafter). I wanted to link my life to the romantic poets to the lives of anybody else coming down the pike.

VIII

I set my pen upon this page
Hoping to immortalize tender age.
All the poets that I read
Have done the same, and planted a seed
In my mind that has grown.
I need to do more, to write.
But, is my dream even in sight?
My name to live on!
To be read printed upon
That golden page on loan.
My name in lights not what I seek‑
Fame forever, yet still be meek.
